I feel like the darkness of winter is finally lifting. I am very tentatively stepping out of the blanket of fog (and the literal blanket) I’ve been in. I’ve been enjoying the lighter mornings and although I’m always sad to be losing an hour of sleep, I’m SO looking forward to the extra daylight that changing the clocks will bring in the UK this weekend.
I’ve always found January quite difficult but this year, the blue feelings extended into February and I was starting to wonder if I was just stuck there. I spend a lot of time exploring these types of feelings in therapy and coaching so I know that there’s always a way out, sometimes you just have to wait it out for a little bit longer.
So, I’m happy to be popping into your inbox feeling a bit lighter today and hopeful that this will continue as we venture into spring.
As an AuDHDer, I can often get stuck in the negative and forget what I’ve been doing or interesting things that have happened so I thought I’d share a monthly post of things I’ve enjoyed and invite you to think about your favourite things this month as well.
March’s marvellous things
I started March having a break at this gorgeous cabin in Suffolk. It was my husband’s birthday so we treated ourselves to a week of calm and quiet. We walked, we ate nice food and we even had a day at the beach. I find travelling quite difficult as I don’t like the change in routine or being away from home (among other AuDHD challenges!) but spending a week out in nature was actually really lovely. I even remembered to take some pictures!
I’ve been loving these ‘soothing stones’ from one of my favourite small businesses, Glaze Me Pretty. I’ve tried a lot of stim things including magnet toys and tangles but these are my favourite. I’ve bought 7 of them and have got one in every coat pocket, on my desk and side tables so I’ve always got something to play with wherever I am! They feel gorgeous and I use them to help me focus or as a soothing aid if I’m feeling stressed.
I loved reading
’s - Full Moon Tales, an original story in the style of a traditional folk tale. This fabulous double rainbow that I spied in Bushy Park, London, one of my absolute favourite places to spend time.
I’m still struggling to read anything properly so instead, my husband suggested we immerse ourselves in some movies and we’ve been rewatching all the Marvel movies in timeline order. It’s been brilliant and I’m enjoying embracing my inner geek once again. I’ve spent so long masking and mirroring to ‘fit in’ that it’s only now that I’m finally feeling confident enough to lean into who I actually am and remember what I actually like.
I’m a huge fan of the TV show, Killing Eve and even though I am usually incredibly impatient, I’ve been loving these weekly instalments of the Killing Eve resurrection from
. Again, embracing something I love and finding a way to read something in smaller chunks.I haven’t seen the Barbie movie yet (I know, late to the party as always) but I have been absolutely OBSESSED with Ryan Gosling Oscar’s performance of ‘I’m Just Ken’. Just pure joy. I’ve watched it approximately 184,000 times since it aired and I’m not sorry about it.
I completed another module as part of my ongoing ADHD coach training and I think this might have been my favourite module so far. We delved into some deep reflections to consider who we were before we knew we had ADHD, who we are now and who we want to be. I am loving immersing myself in learning and I will shortly be opening my doors to new coaching clients. If you are interested in strengths-based, neuro-affirming ADHD coaching, my waitlist is open here. I’ll talk more about my coaching experience and the impact it’s had in my next post.
Looking ahead to April
I have a lot of feelings about what April might bring as I will be heading into full time self employment once again! I am due to finish my current contract very shortly and then I’ll be solely focused on ADHD coaching alongside supporting organisations to be more neuroinclusive. I’ve been speaking to some brilliant businesses over the past few weeks and it’s so exciting that there are more workplaces opening up the conversation about how to help everyone thrive at work.
I’d love to hear how you’ve been spending March or maybe what you’re looking forward to in April?
As always, you can leave a comment in the Substack app or simply reply to this email, I promise I will reply.
Sending love until next time,
Allie x
Sounds like you have great plans ahead Allie! 💛
Hey Allie,
Sunrise - Sublime, thanks for sharing.
I re-watched all the marvels last month actually and just started rewatching Killing Eve so right there with you. Jodie and Sandra are just so dam good.
I'm very glad to hear the fog is lifting, spring is my favourite season and I think this year it's bringing lots of refreshing things with it.
Enjoy the weekend ☺️
